Data · New companies
How many company incorporations the BORME published in October 2026, month by month over the last year, and where the count rose or fell most against a year earlier
The BORME published 10,681 company incorporations in October 2026: 798 fewer than in October 2025 (11,479), a fall of 7.0%, and 26.8% more than in September 2026 (8,426). October 2026 had two fewer BORME issues than October 2025, and per issue the count was 1.9% higher. Madrid and Barcelona together account for more than a third of the total.
This report counts the company incorporations published in the BORME, the official gazette of the Spanish commercial register, in October 2026, the latest complete month, and compares them with the same month a year earlier.
What is counted
A Spanish limited company (sociedad limitada) or public limited company (sociedad anónima) is incorporated by a public deed and, when it is entered in the commercial register (Registro Mercantil) competent for its registered office, acquires the legal personality of the company type chosen. The registered particulars are then published in the BORME under the heading Constitución. We count those publications:
- One count per published entry. An entry that contains a Constitución counts once, even when it also records other acts, such as the appointment of the first directors.
- By date of publication in the BORME, not by the date of the deed or of registration. A company incorporated at the end of September can appear in the October figures.
- By the province under which the BORME publishes the entry. The BORME publishes registered acts province by province, and a company is registered in the commercial register of the place where it has its registered office.
These are our counts of what the BORME published, not an official statistic. The official series is the INE's Estadística de Sociedades Mercantiles, built from the Central Commercial Register's data, which counts companies created and dissolved and changes in capital, and is published several weeks after the month ends. It dates each company by the date of the filing entry in the commercial register (asiento de presentación), not by its publication in the BORME, so the two series measure close but different things and their monthly totals need not match. Ours is available once we have processed each day's gazette and, like the INE series, it covers every province; it also goes down to the municipality where the published address gives one.
October 2026 in brief
- 10,681 incorporations published in 21 issues of the BORME: about 509 per issue, against 499 in October 2025, when there were 23 issues.
- −7.0% year on year and +26.8% on September 2026.
- In 23 of the 52 provinces and autonomous cities more incorporations were published than in October 2025, in 28 fewer and in one the same number.
- Madrid accounted for 2,434, 22.8% of the national total; with Barcelona (1,622), 38.0%.
- The median share capital of the new companies, where the entry gives it, was €3,000, as in every month of the series. €3,000 was the ordinary legal minimum for a sociedad limitada until October 2022, when it was lowered to €1.
Month by month
Incorporations published in the BORME over the last thirteen months:
| Month | Incorporations | BORME issues |
|---|---|---|
| October 2025 | 11,479 | 23 |
| November 2025 | 11,101 | 19 |
| December 2025 | 12,097 | 21 |
| January 2026 | 11,127 | 20 |
| February 2026 | 12,658 | 20 |
| March 2026 | 14,463 | 22 |
| April 2026 | 11,893 | 20 |
| May 2026 | 11,396 | 19 |
| June 2026 | 11,514 | 22 |
| July 2026 | 11,784 | 23 |
| August 2026 | 8,154 | 21 |
| September 2026 | 8,426 | 22 |
| October 2026 | 10,681 | 21 |
March 2026 had the highest count of the series, 14,463, and August and September 2026 the lowest; October brought the count back towards the level of the rest of the year. Because the count varies with the season, we compare each month with the same month a year earlier rather than with the month before.
The number of issues matters too. The BORME is published on working days, and 12 October, Spain's national holiday, fell on a Monday in 2026 and on a Sunday in 2025, so October 2026 had 21 issues against 23. Per issue, 1.9% more incorporations were published than a year earlier, so the year-on-year fall should be read with the calendar in mind.
By province
The ten provinces with the most incorporations published in October 2026, against October 2025:
| Province | Oct 2026 | Oct 2025 | Change |
|---|---|---|---|
| Madrid | 2,434 | 2,753 | −11.6% |
| Barcelona | 1,622 | 1,888 | −14.1% |
| Valencia | 651 | 719 | −9.5% |
| Málaga | 622 | 667 | −6.7% |
| Alicante | 542 | 650 | −16.6% |
| Sevilla | 468 | 410 | +14.1% |
| Illes Balears | 365 | 431 | −15.3% |
| Murcia | 328 | 307 | +6.8% |
| Las Palmas | 214 | 230 | −7.0% |
| Santa Cruz de Tenerife | 209 | 217 | −3.7% |
In eight of the ten, fewer incorporations were published than a year earlier: 319 fewer in Madrid and 266 fewer in Barcelona. Of the ten, only Sevilla (+14.1%) and Murcia (+6.8%) grew, and Alicante fell most (−16.6%).
Each province has its own page, with the latest incorporations and insolvency notices published there: all provinces.
Where the count rose and fell most
Among the provinces with at least 100 incorporations in October 2025 (with a smaller baseline count, a few more or fewer companies would have a large effect on the percentage change):
- Rose most: Almería, 113 → 177 (+56.6%); Sevilla, 410 → 468 (+14.1%); Cádiz, 153 → 171 (+11.8%); Castellón, 100 → 110 (+10.0%).
- Fell most: Gipuzkoa, 118 → 89 (−24.6%); Zaragoza, 163 → 130 (−20.2%); Girona, 209 → 168 (−19.6%); Bizkaia, 203 → 168 (−17.2%).
A single month is a short period: in most of these provinces, incorporations do not appear in every issue of the BORME, so a few dozen companies more or less can depend on publication timing, and October 2026 had two issues fewer than October 2025. The coming months will show whether these changes hold.
By municipality
The ten municipalities with the most incorporations published in October 2026. We do not compare them with October 2025: at this level a year-on-year change can reflect differences in how complete the address data is, not only in the number of companies.
| Municipality | Province | Oct 2026 |
|---|---|---|
| Madrid | Madrid | 1,572 |
| Barcelona | Barcelona | 727 |
| Valencia | Valencia | 293 |
| Málaga | Málaga | 211 |
| Sevilla | Sevilla | 192 |
| Palma de Mallorca | Illes Balears | 144 |
| Murcia | Murcia | 139 |
| Alicante | Alicante | 128 |
| Marbella | Málaga | 121 |
| Zaragoza | Zaragoza | 99 |
These figures cover the incorporations for which we have extracted a municipality from the published registered address, so they can miss some entries. Municipalities with at least 200 incorporations published since 2009 have their own page with the latest ones: municipalities with a data page.
Getting the list behind the numbers
Each incorporation counted here is an event in the BORMEAPI data: the company name, the publication date, the province, the published text of each act with the fields extracted from it (such as the share capital and the registered address, when the notice gives them) and a link to the official BORME PDF. To list the incorporations published in one province in one month:
GET /v1/events?act_type=INCORPORATION&province=VALENCIA&date_from=2026-10-01&date_to=2026-10-31
Add &municipality=VALENCIA to narrow the same query to one municipality. The
results come in pages: 50 events by default and up to 200 with limit; use
offset for the next page, or format=csv for a spreadsheet.
A free key returns the events of the last seven days, so a query for the whole of October needs the Basic plan, which covers a year of history; Pro and Risk cover the full archive since 2009.
